The back to school prep class will give your child the opportunity to begin the school year on the right foot! This academic program is offered to children entering grades 1-6 French Immersion and Core French Students. Through activities such as writing, grammar review, reading comprehension and communication games, your child will gain valuable tools and build confidence for their upcoming school year. This full day program is accompanied with a French workbook designed to meet all academic needs. Students will be divided in separate classes based on grade/French level. This Program is offered in mid-August. Students can attend 1 or 2 weeks.
For students starting grade 1 in Sept, the schedule is as follows:
• Morning: Communication/Short Writing Activities
• Afternoon: Phonics and sounds/Vocabulary Enrichment
For students in French Immersion programs (gr. 2-6), the schedule is as follows:
• Morning: Writing/Grammar Activities
• Afternoon: Reading Comprehension/Math Problem Solving
For students in Core French programs (gr.2-6), the schedule is as follows:
• Morning: Communication/Writing Activities
• Afternoon: Phonics Review/Reading Comprehension
The Saturday Morning French Immersion program (3hrs per week) is designed to educate and motivate French Immersion students from grade 1 to grade 8 in a fun, interactive and social environment. French Solutions activities include: reading comprehension (interpreting and understanding texts), grammar and sentence structure (spelling and punctuation), vocabulary enrichment (new words), creative writing (composing letters and stories), songs and kinesthetic (singing with movements) and communication activities (ice breakers and games). Included in the Saturday morning session, is an intensive 45 minutes reading program which helps students to become independent readers.
“French Immersion Prep Program” is designed for students in SK who will be pursuing French Immersion studies in Gr.1. The focus of the program will be on teaching children the basics of the French language in order to be prepared for Gr.1 expectations. Activities include: communication circles, writing activities, basic phonetics and reading as well as songs and kinesthetic activities. Our goal is to develop oral proficiency, reading skills and a love for French!
The Saturday Afternoon Core French Programs (3hrs per week) have been created to teach students (JK to grade 3), who have not studied French, basic writing and communication skills. Through interactive and engaging activities, our goal is to foster an interest and love for the French language. For those who are currently studying Core French at school (Grade 4 to 8), they will receive additional knowledge on subjects learned in order to further expand their understanding of the French language and to feel confident with their studies. Included in these programs, is an intensive 45 minutes reading program which teaches students the sounds of the French language along with its language patterns. In such, they will acquire the basic skills to start reading correctly. Throughout the year, student will also be working on a French play which they will present at our year end show! This will give the opportunity to students to use their French language skills outside the classroom setting.
